BPE's STLP Project: Fit & Healthy Tigers Qualified for State!
Congratulations to Bridgeport's STLP Project Team: Fit & Healthy Tigers for a job well done at Regional Competition. They will be taking their project to State Competition in April. We are proud of these girls for all of their hard work and look forward to hearing more from them and their fitness site in the upcoming months. These students plan on adding pictures, videos, and even more links to their site to help Bridgeport student stay fit and healthy!
EMS STLP Going to State

Congratulations to the EMS STLP students.

Two groups presented their showcase projects at Regional competition Thursday. Both groups qualified for the State Competition in April.

Shelby O. and Diana V. showcased a presentation on Using iPads to Help Special Needs Students.

Owen P., Jackson B., and Brayden P. presented a video game they created to help students study for the Battle of the Books. Way to go, Elks!  
Culture Connectors Qualify For State STLP
Congratulations to the Westridge Timberwolf Culture Connectors for qualifying for the State STLP Championships!  The Timberwolf Culture Connectors are attempting to collect and connect student created folktales from around the world.  They hope to have 30 folktales before the April competition date.  Members of the team include Emily Rudic, Jon Strange, and Muhammed Cisse.      
EMS Students Win Art Competition
Congratulations to Kaylee Redmon, whose art piece "Cyclops" was recently named the overall winner at the Headley-Whitney Museum's Improbable Baubles contest. 
Madeline Shipley, who create "Medusa" was named Honorable Mention.

This week, we got to talk with School Board Chair Jennifer Grisham-Brown and visit with the Franklin County High School golf team. WHHS FFA Aquaculture Program Wins $1000 Grant
The Western Hills FFA chapter (Henry Collett, primarily a special problem in aquaculture student) has received a $1,000.00 grant for his Aquaculture program to purchase 500 Tilapia and 250 Australian Red Claws to create a program aimed at providing a sustainable source of seafood for food insecure members of our community. Henry’s plan is to use some of each crop to harvest at processing weight and send to the homeless shelters in Frankfort community. He plans to use the remaining livestock as breeding animals for future sustainability of the program. CONGRATULATIONS, Henry and WHHS FFA!!!
WHHS HOSA Officers
Congratulations to the WHHS HOSA Officers!!!!

On October 4 and 5 the officers of the Western Hills High School HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter attended the KLTI (Kentucky Leadership Training Institute) in Louisville, KY. While at the convention each officer earned the "Statesman Award" by completing many tasks such as recitation of the HOSA creed, questions over parliamentary procedures, and knowledge of the members of the State HOSA Board. The WHHS HOSA officers are Elizabeth Woodrum, Caroline Orange, Bethany Smith, and Haley Clevenger.  

Community & Business Leaders Working on a New Workforce Training Partnership
Representatives from eight local manufacturing companies met on Tuesday with local educators and leaders from various community organizations to begin working on a new partnership aimed at expanding and improving the training provided for the area’s manufacturing employees. 
Middle and High School Students, Would You Like to Be a Morning Mentor?
If you would like to volunteer your time to help younger students, Hearn offers an early morning opportunity and then transportation to Elkhorn Middle and Franklin Co. High School. Find more information and the application at Read More. Return completed forms to Mr. Counts or Mrs. Barton.
