WH's Mackenzie Jones leads with respect

MacKenzie Jones, a senior at Western Hills High School, president of her local FFA chapter and president of the first-week Kentucky FFA camp council participated in all of the flag ceremonies during her week-long tenure.

She said the flag ceremonies are probably the most serious of events that take place during each camp.

“We all learn to respect the flag and this is a time when we really recognize the people who have served our country and actually have a chance to remember those who have fallen for us,” she said.

Jones said she wouldn’t want it any other way and with FFA, being patriotic is something the chapters embrace.

“I know with our chapter, we started putting flags in the classrooms and next year we hope to start saying the Pledge every morning,” she said.

Jones noted that traditions such as the flag ceremonies are things that should be kept alive within the organization.

“It helps us to remember our roots and remember why we recite the creed and why we remember all of our history,” she said. “FFA is such a long-standing and outstanding organization that surpasses almost any other and it’s is where we want to be and where we want to keep going in the future.”
