Peaks Mill Elementary School held its first ever Classroom Academy January 25, welcoming a group of 14 parents into 4th grade classrooms to observe the process of teaching and learning. The academy is part of a school-wide effort to help parents better understand what goes on in the classroom, and to allow those parents an opportunity to ask questions and share suggestions. Peaks Mill Principal Dana Blankenship said the program is aimed at building stronger relationships between parents and the school. Today's session focused on 4th-grade classrooms, while future sessions will focus on grades 1, 2, 3 and 5. Parents must apply to participate, as only a limited number of observers can be accommodated in each classroom at any one time.
