The Franklin County Public Schools will hold a public meeting on Monday, March 27, 2017 to discuss plans for the construction of a new Collins Lane Elementary School. The meeting is an opportunity for local residents to learn about the project, ask questions and express their thoughts or concerns. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held in the Collins Lane Elementary Media Center.
The existing Collins Lane building is nearly 50 years old and has surpassed its life expectancy. The school district evaluated the cost of both renovation and new construction and found that the cost of renovating is nearly equal that of a new building. Construction is expected to begin in May, with completion slated for the summer of 2018. Students will continue to use the existing building during construction, and are expected to move into the new building at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
